Refrigerators

Last September we replaced the cooling unit in our RV refrigerator so we were very disappointed when last week our refrigerator quit working. After some troubleshooting and research we discovered the only thing wrong with it was the ambient temperature in the RV was over 100 degrees. Norcold who makes refrigerators for RVs and boats says they are not broken and have not permanently quit they just can not keep up in those temperatures you have to run air conditioners to keep temp down in
RV.
Well ok it would be nice to run air conditioner but when you are boondocking for us it would mean running a generator 24 hours a day. It would have to run during the day for air conditioner and at night for Don's CPAP machine. Not feasible.

SO.......... we are back at Howard and Jenny's in Minnesota set up in their yard where we can have constant electricity. Now we can run air conditioner and the frig is working. By the way Howard and Don had to go pick up new refrigerator for Howards house, the old one not working properly

See why titled this post refrigerators.

Bored?

OK, Don has only found 8 small flakes not worth enough to pay for the gallon of gas it took to run his pump.  He is getting bored!

So yesterday, Friday, he spent the day working on an old tractor they have here at camp. It had not started and ran in 4 years but of course he got it running. The camp caretaker says it is running better than it ever did. They want to use it to mow the yard, the yard is the front acre that faces the paved street where the caretakers house is. It is a $350.00 a day fine for not keeping your yard mowed here.

The main field where the campers park is taken care of by a local farmer. He came the other day and cut and got 21 large round bales of hay. The hay is his payment for cutting. We were told these bales go for $400.00 a piece, so you do the math.

Athens, Michigan

We arrived in Athens, Michigan June 5th, 2013. Athens is a small community of abt 1300 residents. The mining camp consists of 70 acres right of a paved city street.

Don is looking for glacial gold.
